An NIH-funded postdoctoral research fellowship position focused on a novel (and explosively exciting!) treatment for reperfusion injury following acute myocardial infarction is available in the Biomedical Ultrasonics and Cavitation Laboratory at the University of Cincinnati. The overall goal of the project is to harness the physical mechanisms associated with acoustic droplet vaporization to reduce tissue infarct size and improve cardiac function following reperfusion of the heart. The fellow will have the opportunity to conduct basic and translational research in microfluidic emulsion manufacturing and intravascular ultrasound with state-of-the-art techniques/equipment. Experimental approaches will include in vitro, ex vivo, and in vivo models.
A second postdoctoral research fellowship position is also available in the laboratory. The overall goal of the project is to develop advanced cavitation imaging algorithms that can be applied to guide a variety of therapeutic applications, including drug delivery and histotripsy. The fellow’s work will focus primarily on algorithm development and implementation. However, the fellow will also be expected to acquire experimental data in order to test the veracity and utility of the developed cavitation imaging algorithms.
A Ph.D. in biomedical engineering, physics, or another related discipline are preferred. Strong experience in experimental biomedical ultrasound, microfluidics, and/or cardiac models is considered a plus. Per university policy, the position has an initial appointment of one-year and is renewable for additional years.
