Location: San Diego CA
AECOM is seeking a full-time team-oriented Acoustical Consultant to integrate into its San Diego, CA Acoustics team. Candidate would be expected to have the following duties:
The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:
- Deploy and supervise a variety of sound level measurements in the field; conduct and document attended sound measurements; download and process collected data for report or presentation content inclusion. Sound measurement tasks will frequently require working in an outdoor environment.
- Perform predictive analyses with spreadsheet-based tools and commercially available software (mainly FHWA Traffic Noise Model and CadnaA).
- Report to senior-level acousticians and noise control engineers, providing support in the preparation of standalone acoustical reports and relevant portions of environmental permitting documents and technical memoranda.
- While the position typically adheres to a traditional 40-hour per week work schedule, some night and weekend assignments will be required or expected; and, some travel will be required throughout southern California and, as warranted, at client project site locations (or other needs) across the U.S.

Potential project work on or supporting:
- Primary support on noise analysis tasks for transportation, construction, energy and development projects.
- Support noise analysis and reporting tasks for noise sections of environmental documents to support AECOM clients across California and the US.
- FERC Resource Report 9 (RR9) noise quality sections (analyses and fieldwork) for AECOM natural gas developer clients
Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, physics, mathematics, or acoustical science (or closely related)
- Completed academic coursework and/or relevant professional work experience pertaining to environmental acoustics, mechanical system noise control projects, architectural acoustics or related projects.
- Excellent writing and verbal communication skills, including ability to speak effectively in public
- Familiarity with sound and vibration level measurement/monitoring equipment and procedures · Strong Writing skills (samples of work requested for review)
- Competence with Excel (database manipulation, mathematical analyses, conditional formatting, etc.)
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team (either in-person or remotely)
- Must be able to work in an outdoor environment including uneven terrain and must be able to carry up to 40 pounds.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with FHWA Traffic Noise Model (TNM), CadnaA, and/or Roadway Construction Noise Model (RCMN) software
- Familiarity with GIS, AutoCAD, MicroStation, Revit, or comparable building information model (BIM) tools and software
- INCE or ASA student membership
- Demonstrated ability to work as part of a team on large projects.
- Familiarity with California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA), U.S. Environmental Protection Agency
(EPA), National Park Service (NPS), Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), Federal Transit Administration (FTA), and/or Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) regulations and guidance with respect to noise
